Welcome

Angora (Rabbit)

I bought the rabbit Angora from Wooly Spruce Farmstead and I bought two ounces of it. It is soft as a cloud and very nice. I don’t have great pictures of it because I was tired but maybe I’ll update it at some point.

An ounce of Angora roving is A Lot! It was a huge blob on my lap as I spun and it warmed my legs up much more than I ever expected.

The staple was short, 1-2 inches long. The fiber was very soft and warm on my hands. The texture was different than wool, no real crimp and it was slightly slippery. It didn’t long draw very well so I had to do a shorter long draw with more active left hand. It also didn’t respond well to twist going into the drafting zone and I had to work more to adjust for that.

There were some slubs that happened, where the processing hadn’t gotten all of the weird bits out but given how soft it all is, it didn’t really make a different. Other thing to note is that it took a long time to spin all of the fiber up, whether that was because it was so light or it felt long because I couldn’t long draw, I don’t know. It produced very squishy yarn on the bobbin.

I didn’t want to go too thin with my singles, they usually just detached themselves. After finishing, it didn’t poof too much but it is incredibly soft to the touch. As you can see below, both the 2 ply and the 3 ply look nice, they have very nice drape to them and are warm and soft. The slubs are more visible in the 2 ply but overall, I did like spinning this fiber. I wouldn’t choose it for a lot of projects because it will probably wear very quickly but it is very nice to rub on my face.
